Realme 14 Pro Plus: A Deep Dive into its Camera, Design, and Performance
The Realme 14 Pro Series has officially launched, continuing a popular lineup known for its consistent camera performance. While previous mid-range phones in the series sometimes faced issues like color shifts, the Realme 14 Pro series aims to resolve these minor problems, carrying forward its strong camera legacy. This generation, however, shifts the focus heavily towards looks, introducing a unique design element with the world’s first color-changing back. This article will primarily focus on the Realme 14 Pro Plus, while also providing details on the Pro model.
Unboxing and First Impressions
Inside the box, you will find the standard documentation and a SIM card tool. A notable trend for 2025 continues with the inclusion of an opaque case instead of a clear one. While this case is of good quality and won’t turn yellow, it does conceal the phone’s design. The phone itself feels light, despite housing a large battery. Also included is an 80W SuperVOOC charger and a USB Type-A to Type-C charging cable.
The box contents for the Realme 14 Pro are the same. Side-by-side, the Pro model feels lighter and narrower than the Pro Plus. The Pro Plus weighs in at 194.6 grams, while the Pro is lighter at 179.5 grams.
Innovative Design and Durable Build
The back of the phone utilizes thermochromic pigments, which cause the color to change to a bluish hue in temperatures below 16°C. The design also incorporates pearl dust for a premium pearl finish. For the Indian market, the phones are available in two unique colors: Bikaner Purple and Jaipur Pink.
Both phones feature a plastic frame with glass on the front and back, protected by Gorilla Glass 7i. In a drop test, the device survived a fall on its back without any cracks to the glass on either the back or the display.
Ports and Buttons
On the bottom of the device, you’ll find a speaker grill, a USB Type-C port, a microphone, and a dual nano-SIM card tray. There is no SD card slot. The left side is clean, while the top houses a noise-canceling microphone and a speaker vent. The right side features the volume rocker and the power button. It’s important to note that the 3.5mm jack is absent.
Display Specifications
The Realme 14 Pro Plus is equipped with a 6.83-inch, 1.5K resolution AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. This screen features a micro quad-curved design, which looks good and helps with gaming. It has a high brightness mode of 1200 nits and a peak brightness of 4500 nits.
The Pro model has a slightly smaller 6.77-inch FHD+ display with a 3D curved design and a peak brightness of 1500 nits. Both phones have very thin bezels, achieving a screen-to-body ratio of around 93-94%. The colors are excellent, making the display a highlight on both devices.
Performance, Battery, and Gaming
The Pro Plus is powered by the 7S Gen 3 chipset, achieving an AnTuTu score of around 8.5 Lakhs. It comes with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. Gaming performance is quite good; BGMI runs at 60FPS with a 90FPS update promised to roll out soon. Even a demanding game like Genshin Impact maintains around 52FPS on the highest settings after 30-45 minutes of play. Thermals are kept in check by a 6000 mm² vapor cooling chamber, preventing throttling during long gaming sessions.
Both the Pro and Pro Plus models come with a large 6000 mAh battery, an increase from the 5200 mAh in the previous generation. The Pro Plus supports 80W charging, while the Pro model supports 45W charging.
Software and Connectivity
The series runs on Realme UI 6, which is based on Android 15. Realme has promised two years of major OS updates (up to Android 17 and 18) and three years of security updates. While the OS core is smooth, it does come with third-party apps, though many can be uninstalled.
In terms of connectivity, the phones support Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and 15 5G bands with dual 5G capability. For sensors, both models include an optical in-display fingerprint sensor and Face Unlock. The phones use a USB 2.0 port for data transfer.
Multimedia Experience
The nearly bezel-less, immersive display makes for an excellent video-viewing experience. This is complemented by stereo speakers that are quite loud and offer good quality sound. For viewing in low-light conditions, the display features 3840Hz PWM dimming to reduce eye strain. The phone supports HDR10 on YouTube, with Netflix support expected to arrive via a future update.
Camera System Breakdown
The camera has always been a strong point of the Realme number series, and this generation is a huge improvement.
Camera Specifications
The Realme 14 Pro Plus features a triple-camera setup with a 50MP primary sensor, a 50MP periscope lens, and an 8MP ultrawide camera. The front has a 32MP selfie camera. The primary, telephoto, and selfie cameras are all capable of recording video at 4K 30FPS.
The Pro model has a different camera configuration, featuring a 50MP primary sensor, a depth sensor, and a 16MP selfie camera. The Pro is also powered by a different chipset, the Dimensity 7300.
Photo Quality and Features
Photos taken with the Pro Plus exhibit good dynamic range. A recent update has fixed previous issues with color shift and warm tones, resulting in skin tones that are pleasing to the eye with no excessive sharpening. The 3X periscope lens allows for impressive 3X portrait shots with good bokeh and edge detection.
The device also comes with several unique camera features. A “Magic Flow Triple Flash” includes three different LED flashes, allowing you to adjust the color temperature in five steps for better low-light photography. With an IP69 rating, you can even shoot underwater video for 30-45 minutes. The camera also offers 6X lossless zoom and up to 20X zoom with AI assistance. You get a full suite of modes, including night, street, portrait, pro, slow motion, time-lapse, dual video, and starry mode.
Price and Verdict
The Realme 14 Pro series is expected to be priced in the Rs 25-30K range. With offers, the Pro Plus could be available for around Rs 27-28K, and the Pro model for Rs 24-25K.
For this price, the Realme 14 Pro Plus stands out as a strong camera smartphone. The three major highlights are its capable camera system, the excellent display, and the unique design. While its performance is decent and not extraordinary, the phone offers a compelling package focused on photography and aesthetics.
