Mi Wireless Earphones 2S: A Detailed First Impression
We have the new Mi Wireless Earphones 2S, and their biggest highlight is the large 14.2mm drivers. Let’s unbox them and share our first impressions on the design, features, and most importantly, the audio quality.
Unboxing and What’s Inside
The unboxing experience is straightforward. The packaging contains standard information. Inside the box, you will find the charging case with the earphones, a USB Type-C cable for charging, and some documentation. There isn’t much else included, which is typical for many Xiaomi products.
Design and Build Quality
The Mi Wireless Earphones 2S feature a very minimalist design in a clean white color. The charging case has an LED indicator on the front, a pairing button on the right-hand side, and a USB Type-C port at the bottom. The earphones themselves feel very sturdy and well-built, giving the impression that they will last a long time.
A thoughtful design choice is how easily the earbuds can be removed from the case. Unlike some other TWS models, you can comfortably pull these out. Each earbud has charging connectors at the bottom and microphones at both the top and bottom. They also include sensors for wear detection.
Pairing and Connectivity
These earphones feature a quick pair function, similar to Apple AirPods. As soon as you open the case, a pop-up appears on your phone screen. To connect, you simply hold the button on the box for two seconds. The pop-up conveniently displays the battery percentage for the left earbud, the right earbud, and the charging case itself.
Fit and Comfort
Regarding the fit, it could have been better. For those with smaller ears, the earbuds might feel a bit large, and since there are no different-sized silicone tips, this could be an issue for some users. They may not fit as securely as other models.
Audio Performance
After listening to music for a good while, the audio quality is impressive. The bass is good, and the large 12.4mm drivers make a noticeable difference. The mids are also clear and sound nice. However, the highs could have been a little better. If you are a fan of bass-heavy music, you are going to like these earphones.
Controls and Features
The controls are simple and touch-based. A double-tap on the right earbud will play or pause your music. A double-tap on the left earbud will trigger your phone’s voice assistant. When you receive a call, you can double-tap either earbud to answer it. The earphones also support wear detection, which automatically pauses music when you take them out.
Latency and Gaming
The latency on these earphones is very low, thanks to support for the LHDC codec. This is a significant advantage for users who enjoy gaming, as it ensures audio and video are in sync. The earphones also feature Environmental Noise Cancellation (ENC), which helps during calls by cutting out background noise like wind, making your voice clearer to the person on the other end.
Battery Life
In terms of battery, you get 4 hours of continuous listening time from the earbuds on a single charge. The charging case provides a total backup of 14 hours.
Price and Final Thoughts
The MRP for the Mi Wireless Earphones 2S is ₹4,499, but they are available with a launch offer for ₹3,999. For this price, they are a quite decent option and offer good value for money, considering that quality TWS earbuds were once priced much higher. However, it is important to note one feature that is missing: wireless charging. Other earphones in this price range do offer this feature, so its absence here is noticeable.
