Realme 6 Pro Unboxing and First Impressions: The First with Snapdragon 720G
The first smartphone featuring the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor and support for NavIC is here. We are talking about the Realme 6 Pro. We have the device with us for an unboxing and to give you our first impressions. This device is the bigger brother to the Realme 6, with the main differences being the processor and some camera changes.
What’s In The Box?
Upon opening the box, you are greeted with a “Welcome to realme Family” packet, which contains the usual documentation and a protective case. Setting the phone aside for a moment, the box also contains a large 30W VOOC fast charger. Realme claims this can charge the phone’s battery completely in under 60 minutes. A USB Type-C cable is also included. The provided case is of good quality and should protect the phone from accidental drops.
Design and In-Hand Feel
The Realme 6 Pro features a unique design, especially in the Lightning Orange color. It’s a look that you will either love or hate. Realme says the design is inspired by lightning. For protection, the phone has Gorilla Glass on both the front and the back.
Compared to previous Realme phones that often feel narrow, the 6 Pro feels a bit wider and thicker in hand. For those with smaller hands, the phone might feel a bit large. In terms of weight, it feels close to 200 grams, and a quick check on the scale confirms it weighs 199 grams. While it is on the heavier side, it doesn’t feel overly heavy.
Ports and Buttons
Taking a look around the device, the bottom edge houses a speaker grill, a USB Type-C port, a microphone, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The left side features the volume up and down buttons along with the SIM card tray. The top of the phone has a secondary noise-canceling microphone. On the right side, you will find the power button, which also doubles as a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
The SIM tray features a dedicated triple-slot design, meaning you can use two SIM cards and a microSD card simultaneously.
Display
The Realme 6 Pro sports a large 6.6-inch FHD+ display. A key feature is its 90Hz refresh rate, which makes animations and scrolling feel very smooth. The display also supports HDR. In terms of quality, the brightness is good, and the colors look quite nice. The bezels are thin, with an average-sized chin at the bottom. Overall, if you enjoy phones with large screens, you will like this display.
Core Specifications
This is the first phone to launch with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor. The device comes in three variants: a base model with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage, a 6GB/128GB model, and a top-end 8GB/128GB model.
Powering the device is a 4300mAh battery that supports 30W fast charging. Realme claims a full charge can be achieved within an hour. The phone also features UFS 2.1 storage and LPDDR4x RAM.
Software Experience
The Realme 6 Pro runs on Realme UI, which is based on Android 10. The software comes with some pre-installed apps, but they can be uninstalled. There is a “Content Recommendations” feature, which can be turned off in the settings. Overall, Realme UI is a significant improvement over the previous ColorOS that came on older Realme phones.
Biometrics and Security
For security, the device includes a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and face unlock. In our initial testing, both the fingerprint sensor and the face unlock are very fast and reliable. The fingerprint sensor has an option to unlock on a light touch or a firm press, depending on your preference. There’s also a nice animation that appears around the dual front cameras when using face unlock.
Other Key Features
The phone is packed with essential features. It supports dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling out of the box, and has a dedicated SD card slot. For entertainment, it has Widevine L1 support, allowing you to stream content in HD from services like Netflix. It also supports FM Radio. For camera enthusiasts, Camera2API is enabled, meaning you can use GCam mods.
A significant highlight is its support for NavIC, India’s own navigation satellite system developed by ISRO, making it one of the first phones to support it. The SAR values are also within the specified limits.
Audio and Video Performance
For multimedia consumption, the phone’s single bottom-firing speaker is loud, and the quality is decent, which can be described as above average. The device also supports high-resolution audio. The large screen makes for an impressive video-viewing experience. While the colors are not as vibrant as an AMOLED panel, the overall experience is above average.
Camera Setup
The camera is a major differentiator between the Realme 6 Pro and the standard Realme 6. The 6 Pro features a quad-camera setup on the back, consisting of a 64MP primary sensor, a 12MP telephoto lens, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP macro lens.
On the front, there is a dual-camera setup. This includes a 16MP primary selfie camera and, thankfully, an 8MP ultra-wide secondary camera with a 105-degree field of view, allowing you to capture wider group selfies.
Based on initial photos, the dynamic range appears good, colors are pleasing, and skin tones look natural. The camera app in Realme UI is also a big improvement over previous versions. The phone features UIS (Ultra Image Stabilization) for both photos and videos.
Performance and Gaming
Powered by the Snapdragon 720G, the Realme 6 Pro scores 287,469 in AnTuTu benchmarks, which is very similar to the Helio G90T found in the Realme 6. In day-to-day use, performance is buttery smooth, with no issues in swiping through the UI, animations, or opening normal apps.
When it comes to gaming, you can play PUBG on High settings and Call of Duty on High settings. Fortnite runs on Medium settings. While the Helio G90T in the Realme 6 may offer slightly higher graphics settings in some games, the Snapdragon 720G has an advantage. It is built on a more power-efficient 8nm process, which means the 4300mAh battery should provide longer life on the 6 Pro compared to the Realme 6.
Price and Variants
The Realme 6 Pro is available at the following price points:
- 6GB + 64GB: ₹16,999
- 6GB + 128GB: ₹17,999
- 8GB + 128GB: ₹18,999
At this price, the phone offers a good package. It shares many similarities with the Realme 6 and competes in a price range where other options exist. It is a definite buy at this price point, though the addition of an AMOLED screen would have made it a wholehearted recommendation.
