Vivo T4R 5G First Impressions: An All-Rounder Under Rs 20K
Vivo is aggressively aiming to increase its market share in India, expanding its T4 series with the new T4R 5G. Positioned to be an all-around proposition under Rs 20,000, with effective offer prices potentially bringing it down to the Rs 17-18K range, this phone packs a lot of features. Here are our first impressions based on the unboxing.
Unboxing and In-Box Contents
The Vivo T4R 5G arrives with a comprehensive set of accessories in the box. Alongside the phone, you get a decent quality case, documentation, and a warranty card. Crucially, Vivo includes a 44W flash charger and a USB Type A to Type C charging cable, which many brands have started to omit. The humble SIM card tool is also present.
Design, Look, and Feel
The first thing you’ll notice is the phone’s hand feel; it feels both thin and light. Despite its large battery, the device weighs in at just 184g, making it pocket-friendly. The design is striking, with a geometric pattern on the back panel that looks nice without being overly flashy.
The front and back of the phone feature a micro-quad curved display, giving it a premium look. For protection, the front is equipped with Diamond Shield glass. In terms of durability, the phone has a plastic frame and also comes with SGS 5 Star Drop Resistance Certification and a Military Grade 810H Certification.
Looking at the ports and buttons, the bottom houses a speaker grill, a microphone, and a USB Type C port. The top has another speaker grill and a noise-canceling microphone. The right side features the power button and volume rocker, which are well-positioned, while the left side is clean.
Immersive Display
The Vivo T4R features a large 6.77-inch FHD AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen is bright, boasting 1800 NITS of peak brightness and a 1300 NITS HBM (High Brightness Mode). The bezels are very thin, and combined with the curved edges, they create a very nice and immersive viewing experience.
Performance and Specifications
Under the hood, the T4R is powered by the Dimensity 7400 processor. It comes in three variants: 8GB RAM with 128GB storage, 8GB RAM with 256GB storage, and 12GB RAM with 256GB storage. The phone uses LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage. The AnTuTu score is around 7.10-7.15 Lakh, which is decent for a phone in this price segment.
For thermals, the phone is equipped with 10 temperature sensors to optimize performance and prevent overheating, along with a 13000mm2 vapor cooling chamber.
Gaming and Software
While Vivo phones are not primarily known for gaming, the T4R handles casual gaming with ease. You can play games like BGMI at 60FPS and Free Fire at 90FPS. It also includes an Ultra Game Mode and Bypass Charging, a feature typically found in dedicated gaming phones.
The device runs on FunTouch OS, which is based on Android 15. Vivo promises two years of major OS updates and three years of security updates, which are delivered in a timely manner. The OS includes Vivo’s own dialer for call recording and features like AI recording and transcription. While there are some third-party apps and recommendations, they can be uninstalled or disabled. Vivo also promises 60 months of fluency, ensuring the phone remains smooth for 4-5 years.
Camera System
The camera is a major highlight. The rear camera module’s design is similar to the V series. It features a Sony IMX882 primary sensor and a secondary sensor for depth. While it lacks an ultrawide sensor, it compensates with multi-focal portraits, allowing you to click portrait shots at 1.5x and 2x zoom.
The standout feature is the 32MP selfie camera. It captures excellent skin tones and details, even in portrait mode where individual hair strands are clearly defined.
In terms of video, you can shoot 4K at 30FPS from both the front and rear cameras. The camera app is packed with features, including Night Mode, Portrait Mode, a dedicated Micro Movie mode, Pro Mode, Supermoon Mode, and even an underwater photography mode, supported by its IP68-69 certification. You also get Dual View mode and AI features like AI Eraser in the editing suite.
Battery and Charging
The phone is powered by a large 5700mAh battery, which is impressive given its thin and light profile. It supports 44W flash charging, ensuring you can quickly top up the battery.
Multimedia and Connectivity
The multimedia experience is a standout feature. The bright and beautiful AMOLED display, combined with stereo speakers, provides loud and high-quality audio for an immersive experience. The display also has a Low Blue Light certification, making it comfortable for binge-watching at night.
For connectivity, the phone supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, and 5G with VoNR (Voice over New Radio). All essential sensors are present, including an in-display fingerprint sensor and face unlock.
